Dr. Peter Economou's Obituary
Dr. Peter Gregory Economou passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday October 28, 2018. Peter was the beloved father of three children and four grandchildren.
Peter was born in Greece in the prefecture of Achaia, on January 27, 1927. He was the oldest son of the seven children of Gregory and Theodora Economou. He graduated with a medical degree from the University of Athens. He then emigrated to the United States to begin his residency at Baltimore City Hospital, and completed his surgical training at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was married to Calliope (Herouvis) Economou and enjoyed 48 years of marriage until her death in 2005. He and Calliope had three children, Theodora (husband Charles Glasrud), Gregory, and Vasilliki (husband Mark Ruby). He was a devoted father and grandfather, and was proud of his grandchildren Joseph (wife Katharine Lindgren), Katherine (husband Brian Rider), Thomas, and Peter. He was one of a group of founders of the St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church in North Royalton, Ohio.
His was a lifetime of unselfish devotion to the practice of medicine and to his faith community. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, and his brother Demetrios and (sister-in-law Despina) and his sisters, Vasilliki, Constantina (and brother-in-law Vasilli), Georgia, Anastasia and Demetra (and brother-in-law Panagiotis).
