Mary Parianos' Obituary
Mary (Maria) Parianos, age 96, fell asleep with the Lord on March 15th, 2023. Mary was born on June 23rd, 1926 and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Her Greek immigrant parents, Goldie Moraitis Stone and Theodore Moraitis were from the island of Ikaria, Greece. Mary grew up during the depression and war years and learned the lesson of resourcefulness during these difficult times. She helped her family by working in a candy store (Jimmy's Sweet Shop), the A&P, and later on, in a bank. Mary was like a second mother to her five brothers and sisters. Her motto was "if you can help someone, help".
Mary was married to the love of her life, Paul Parianos on September 7, 1947 and moved to Cleveland, Ohio where they raised three daughters. Mary was active with the Pan Icarian Brotherhood of Cleveland Ladies Auxiliary and the Daughters of Penelope. Their restaurant, Harry's Cafe, became a safe harbor for many Ikarian immigrants coming to Cleveland. She also worked as a bookkeeper from 1971 to 1992 and enrolled at Cleveland State University and Baldwin-Wallace College to further her business skills. Mary was a grand lady who helped so many. She spoke her mind, loved to dance and owned every room! Her musical genes have been passed down to many generations of her family. Mary had beautiful black hair, Jacque O looks and a flare for fashion. Her daughters remember those slim pencil skirts of the 50's and 60's. Mary told her daughters, when you go through the depression and you come back to good times, you want to dress up, and dress up she did!
Mary is remembered as a beautiful soul who has left a rich legacy. She was a grandmother to 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Mary will be deeply missed by her family of five generations and friends.
