Mrs Helen Maropis' Obituary
Helen Maropis, 92, of Parma, Ohio passed away on December 25, 2021. Helen was the oldest of three children in a family that immigrated from the island of Crete, Greece in the early 20th century. Helen was born on March 11, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio. In her youth, she spent ample time at her family’s Cleveland restaurant, The Zone Lunch. She married George Maropis of Burgettstown, PA in 1949.
Helen was the beloved mother of Hope (Michael) Barkoukis and Sam (Ruth) Maropis; sister of George Harriston (Stella) and Kathy Harris; cherished grandmother of Athan, Andrea, Leah, Annie, and Tessa; great grandmother of Eva, Demetri, and Matthew, Christopher and Michael; beloved aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She is preceded in death by her husband George, and her parents Michael and Hope Harriston (Babiolis). Helen had an appreciation for beauty and a way with words, both of which contributed to her success as a business woman. She was ahead of her times with a career that began by selling china and cookware, ultimately transitioning to real estate. This led to the development of her own brokerage firm, Professional Plaza Realty. Helen never stopped learning, growing, or speaking her mind, and her wisdom and laughter will be missed dearly.
Private services will be held at ST. PAUL GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 4548 WALLINGS ROAD, N.ROYALTON, OH 44133. Interment at St. Theodosius Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and visitation, donations may be made in Helen’s name directly to St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church. A celebration in memory of Helen’s beautiful life will be held in the spring.
