Gilbert Hanna's Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce that Gilbert George Hanna, age 65, passed away on May 8, 2026, due to ongoing health complications, in Pittsburgh, PA, surrounded by his family.
This tragic loss came days after the untimely death of his oldest sister, Sue Hanna, on May 4, 2026, in Las Vegas, NV. Gil was born in Los Angeles, CA, on May 22, 1960, to the late Halem & Delores Hanna.
Gil lived a life marked by compassion, strength, and deep devotion to his family and faith. For over 40 years, Gil was a pioneer in communication engineering, traveling to all but one continent in the course of his work. He paved the way for high-definition television engineering and was behind the scenes for numerous major broadcasts.
Gil was a devoted Orthodox Christian who meticulously practiced and preached his faith. Gil was incredibly passionate about cars, as he worked in his father’s auto shop as a teenager and young adult. He closely followed space exploration, with a lifelong wish to go into space. Gil was also a huge Rush fan, attending over 20 of their concerts. He was ecstatic about securing tickets to see Rush in concert in Cleveland with his children this coming September.
Gil was a man of honor, respect, and the greatest sense of humor. He was a light in every room he walked into. He made a multitude of friends everywhere he went, whether at car shows, work, or church. He was an amazing man who will be greatly missed by all.
Gil is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Kelly Hanna, who cared for him endlessly; his two daughters, who he loved unconditionally, Amelia Hanna Campbell (Benjamin Campbell) and Alexi Hanna (Sonnieboy Blanco); his youngest sister, Janet Hanna; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, including his goddaughter Brianna Fussner (Tyler Fussner) and his godson Luke George.
Services will be held at St. Matthew the Evangelist Antiochian Orthodox Church (10383 Albion Rd, North Royalton, OH 44133) on Friday, May 15, 2026. Visitation hours start at 9:30 a.m., with services following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Lakewood Park Cemetery (22025 Detroit Rd, Rocky River, OH 44116).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church (3230 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA 15017) or St. Matthew the Evangelist Antiochian Orthodox Church (10383 Albion Rd, North Royalton, OH 44133).
