George Shirilla's Obituary
George Shirilla, aged 89, passed on to eternal life on November 15, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 18, 1933 in Searights, PA. Beloved husband of June (nee Virostko), for 65 years. Loving father of, Robert, Joseph (Toni) and Lisa (Byron) Olexa. Loving Papa of his cherished granddaughters Dr. Alexandria and Julianne. Son of the late Joseph and Helen (nee Barbush) Shirilla. Dear brother of the following deceased: Joseph Jr, Thomas, John and Mary Lizanich. Uncle and great-uncle of many. George was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He established a career as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for Eaton Corporation for 30+ years with numerous patents to his name. Beloved cantor of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cathedral for 50 years, very rarely missing a Sunday or a holy day. Devoted to his church, George was also a member of the Holy Name Society and the Pastoral & Finance Councils. George had many hobbies including: carpentry, woodworking, building fine furniture, beer making, wine making, and being able to fix or redesign most anything he touched. Visitation will be in the Yurch Funeral Home, 5618 Broadview Road, Parma, Friday, November 25, 2022 from 4-8pm. Parastas Service at 7pm. Funeral Service with Divine Liturgy on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cathedral, 1900 Carlton Rd., Parma (please use Snow Rd. Entrance) at 10:30am (please meet at church). Interment Holy Spirit Cemetery.
