George Alexander Hobe's Obituary
After battling a long illness, George Alexander Hobe
reposed to the Lord, Thursday, July 14th
.
Born in Paris, France, August 18th 1938, George
immigrated to the United States, in 1952, with his parents
Nicholas and Barbara, along with his sister Helene. Later,
he attended Drumm Farm School for Boys, in Indepence,
MO. After graduating from high school, he attended
University of Kansas, and received a Bachelor of Science
in Mechanical Engineering.
George was commissioned into the United States Airforce
in 1963, as a 2nd Lieutenant. After serving active duty, he
then continued to serve in the United States Air Force
Reserves, retiring in 1991, as Lieutenant Colonel.
George spent his civilian career at Wright-Patterson
Airforce Base, where he was the key architect and
engineer for the research and development of the T-46
Primary Air Crew Training System. With his expertise in
system design and avionics, he played a pivotal role in
billions of dollars spent in numerous transport and special
mission aircraft, to support the President, Vice President
and other senior government officials. His programs
included V-22 Osprey and various derivatives of the
C-130, to name a few.
George was a passionate engineer, with a thirst for
knowledge and a devotion for sharing his wisdom. He was
well regarded by his peers, superiors and those he
mentored.
He enjoyed the construction and flying of model airplanes,
along with being an expert sailor and taught others to sail.
He also was an avid reader, painter and water colorist of
nature and nautical subjects.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Hobe, his son Alexander
Hobe of Washington DC, daughter,Tanya Oravetz, his son
in-law, Michael Oravetz and two grand daughters, Anna
and Emelia of Lakewood, Ohio, a sister, Helene Terentiev,
Brother in-law Alexei Terentiev, and his nieces Elizabeth
Jordan and Alexandra Potapov, of Sea Cliff, NY,
Services will be held at the St. Sergius Russian Orthodox
Cathedral, in Parma, Ohio. Calling hours, on the evening
of Monday July 18, from 6-7, with Panikhida following, and
Funeral Tuesday morning July 19 2022, 10:00 am. Burial,
at St Theodosius Cemetery, following.
