Emily Vedouras' Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother Emily Vedouras. A generous woman dedicated to living a life of service, she was known for her infectious laughter and remarkable generosity. Her legacy lives on as a testament to her unwavering commitment to family and her deep love for her culture and church.
Born on August 6, 1930, in Piraeus, Greece, Emily’s life took a new chapter when she emigrated to the United States. There, she met and married her soulmate, John Vedouras, with whom she shared a remarkable 52-year marriage. Tragically, John passed away before her, leaving behind a void that she never fully filled.
As a mother to Anna (Jack Ramsey) and Tom (partner Terri), and a grandmother to John (Kelly), Tommy (partner Yousef), and Alex (Mia), Emily’s love and support extended far beyond her immediate family.
A graduate of Jeanne D’Arc Greek-French School in Piraeus, Greece, Emily was fluent in both Greek and French before embarking on her journey to the United States. Her thirst for knowledge led her to pursue further education, earning her B.A. with honors in Social Work and her Master of Science in Urban Studies from Cleveland State University.
Throughout her career, Emily dedicated herself to the field of social work, serving as a social worker and supervisor for Cuyahoga County for an impressive 19 years. Her commitment to her profession was further exemplified by her extensive volunteer work, which involved various organizations such as the PTA, Girl and Boy Scouts, and the Greek Orthodox churches she attended. Emily’s dedication extended beyond her professional life as she also volunteered and served on the Board of the Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Funeral service will be held at St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 4548 Wallings Rd., North Royalton, OH 44133 on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 12 noon. A traditional Makaria luncheon will be offered at the Church following the burial at St. Theodosius Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Church on Monday, February 24 from 10:00 am – 12:00.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church Ladies Philoptochos Society.
