Christine Vrettos' Obituary
Christine, 63, passed away Monday. She had one of the first open heart surgeries as an infant but the pioneer procedure caused her to suffer a cognitive disability. Christine never allowed that disability to stop her and was a top employee in her workshops. Christine was determined to learn, and to read, even though she was denied entry in to public schools. With private tutoring, Christine learned to read and was recognized in an education journal and by the Ohio Senate. She loved travel, dancing, rock and roll, Elvis, the Indians, a glass of wine, and most of all shopping. Christine, who also had a speech impairment, learned to communicate in English, Greek, and sign language, and sometimes would use all three in the same thought. Christine was a true inspiration who lived her life to the fullest.
She is survived by her devoted sister, Bessie, who was at her bedside these final weeks; her Aunt Nickie Poulos, cousins Evangelia (Stanley) Gromek , Martin (Wendy) Poulos, and Chris (Lori) Vrettos, nieces and nephews, and three Godchildren, Emma, Cecilia and Renaldo Delanuez. She was preceded in death by her parents Amalia and Anastasios, and her dear friend Joe Dirck.
Visitation is Wednesday, 4 to 8 pm, Yurch Funeral Home, 5618 Broadview Road, Parma. Trisagion Service at 7 pm Wednesday. Funeral Service is Thursday, 10 am, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. 2187 West 14th St. Cleveland. Memorial contributions to be sent to the Annunciation Building Fund.
