Chris Stavropoulos' Obituary
Chris John Stavropoulos, 93, beloved husband of Pauline (nee Papadopulos); loving father of Dena Stavros and fiancé Tom Bovitt, Chrisanne (Jim) Begam and loving grandfather to Brittan and Scarlett Begam. Chris, “Papou”, was loved and will be missed by many. His family emigrated from the Peloponnese region of Greece and eventually settled in Lakewood, where Chris helped out at the Rialto Grill, his family’s restaurant on West 25th Street next to the West Side Market in Downtown Cleveland. Chris had a special skill for drawing and painting and as early as elementary school was offered an opportunity to go to a private art school in Boston to develop his talent, but instead he stayed to help out at the stereotypical Greek family restaurant. Chris was a graduate of West Tech High School where he competed as a heavy weight wrestler. Chris was very proud to serve his country as a Sergeant (three stripes) in the Airforce during the Korean war where he received an honorable discharge after four years of service. He married the love of his life, Pauline, 65 years ago. Chris was a very active member of St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church. His faith was the center of his life and it showed by his actions and his deeds. Chris had a lengthy career at Caterpillar ‘CAT’ in the Engineering Department where they also utilized his art skills to commission pen and ink portraits of their retiring executives. He loved to travel with family and friends and made many friends along the way. Chris’ legacy will be his love of the church, family, friends and heritage.
