Bruce William Trakas' Obituary
Bruce William Trakas, born May 19, 1953, entered into rest March 31, 2025, age 71. Dearly beloved brother of Rhonee S. Iula (Christopher) and Major James P. Trakas (Anne). Uncle of Nickole K. and Jonathan J. Iula, beloved son of the late Peter W. and Kathy L. Trakas. Godfather of Elayna Mathiellis (nee Boukis).
Bruce held the title of Ecclesiarch of the Greek Orthodox Church, where he spent a lifetime devoted to God. At St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church in North Royalton, Bruce served as church custodian while working his way through school at Cleveland State University, where he graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and the University of Akron College of Law. Bruce served as Cantor for hundreds of services, weddings, baptisms, and funerals. He was active in the parish and served on the Parish Council as Secretary. Bruce received the prestigious Saint Photios Award from the Metropolis of Pittsburgh for his church volunteerism. He was well informed and was an active participant in church life. Bruce was a proud member of the Order of AHEPA, George E. Loucas Chapter 480, and served on the Central and Executive Committees of the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County. Bruce’s career was in public service, starting at the request of George V. Voinovich with the City of Cleveland, eventually managing contracts for federal job training programs, and became HR Director at the Ohio Lottery Commission. He also served at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections and County Treasurer’s office before his retirement. Bruce was a voracious reader and active participant in social media, commenting on affairs of church and state.
The family will receive friends on FRIDAY APRIL 4, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Yurch Funeral Home, 5618 Broadview Road Parma, OH 44134 with Trisagion Service at 6:00 P.M. The Order of AHEPA fraternal service at 6:30 P.M. Funeral Service will take place on SATURDAY APRIL 5, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 4548 Wallings Road North Royalton, Ohio 44133. Interment at St. Theodosius Orthodox Cemetery immediately following church services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the AHEPA 480 Foundation, 10291 Wildflower Way Broadview Heights, OH 44147 or to St. Paul Ladies Philoptochos.
