Angelyne Mathews' Obituary
Angelyne “Jenny” Mathews (nee Mollis), daughter of James and Marika Mollis of Dolanna, Greece. Beloved wife of the late John Mathews and loving mother of Mike Mathews, Char Mathews, and John Mathews (wife Pat) of Topsfield, MA and Grandmother of Jonathan, Nicholas, and Zoe, passed on 12/22/17 peacefully with family by her side.
Angelyne was born February 11, 1921 in McKeesport, PA. Sister of Ortha (Deceased) wife of Chris Cherpas, Chris (Wife Dee) Mollis, Pauline Anthe (Deceased) wife of Charles (Deceased), George Mollis (Deceased), and Leo Mollis (Deceased).
Jenny was engaged to John Mathews while he was on active duty in New Guinea during World War II and their ongoing correspondence resulted in their marriage upon John’s return. Jenny and John had three children, Mike, Char and John.
Angelyne was a loving, supportive, selfless wife and mother. Time with her family was easily her most cherished activity. Her graciousness provided a sense of comfort and love to all who knew her. Jenny found great pleasure in physical activity, such as swimming and daily exercise classes. She and her two sisters enjoyed their many adventures to art camp in North Carolina and to Hiram House Camp in the summers.
A superb cook, Jenny’s classic Greek meals, and creative touch on everyday staples, were delightfully consumed by her family and friends. Angelyne’s grace and acceptance of her declining health and total loss of vision and hearing, did not detour her gentleness and sense of humor. An avid reader, she also enjoyed being with her friends at the church library group. Her friends loved her for her easy-going style and sweet nature. Donations, if considered, may be sent to Sts. Constantine and Helen Church Library Group.
