Tribute to Martha
I first met Martha at Father Tom's retreat. I was captivated not only by her spiritual wisdom but also how approachable and heartfelt was her greeting to me. The impact she would have on my life was yet to unfold.
From that moment on we wrote to one another and had numerous long conversations. Not the passing by ordinary ones but meaningful ones that provided a basis for hours of reflection. Often we spoke of the purpose of our lives....
Martha was far from ordinary.
Throughout our friendship, life purpose was a continual thread. What I learned from Martha was that steadfast faith really does matter. Faith is not for the weak of heart. Our prayers are not only necessary but important. They could free a soul from purgatory or bring much needed peace.
We shared stories and devotion to the Blessed Mother. One of the stories she loved was how my son Nicholas had one of his interviews for medical school on December 12 which is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. He was accepted by all the people of the interviewing board on that day land now will graduate in May as a doctor.
Never have I met a person more devoted to Our Lady. Years of devotion and trips to Fatima were captured in her vivid and detailed stories. No one could tell a story like Martha.
Martha was my spiritual warrior, always coming to my defense when I felt like folding. Closest to a saint that I will ever know and with utmost grace was Martha. Trusting in God's plan, she lived her life by example.
Our final conversation was within a week of her death. She talked about how God develops a framework for each and every one of us. Within this framework,it is up to us to create our life. In that last conversation, Martha questioned her life purpose. However, she was willing to be patient and wait for God. Not to demand or plead or moan but simply to accept His divine plan.
When I learned of Martha's death, I was saddened and I thought to myself how could she be 92-1/2 years old. Because you seer age never entered into the picture of our friendship. What I saw in Martha was the essence of God reflected in her bigger than life devotion to Our Lady. I saw a model for humanity and a way to integrate any amount of love into my life and the lives of others. There are no barriers to connecting to the hearts of others. Martha has taught me to look through every soul, find their essence, and love them. You never have a friend long enough.
I will miss you Martha. I will miss our long conversations, laughter, and the gift we were to each other. Our connection will remain in my heart forever. The prayers you taught me will be spoken. The legacy of our beautiful Lady will continue. Most of all I will hold the vision of my friend Martha seated beside her Blessed Mother. A throne she so rightly deserves.
Eternal Memory my friend for you will always be loved and remembered.
Indeed , your life purpose is complete....
God Bless,
Cindy
