March 19, 1927 - March 3, 2022
Rose Vourlis, 94, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 3, 2022, in Wickliffe, Ohio. Rose was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 19, 1927, to Spiros and Evangeline (Rokakis) Gonakis, both of Crete, Greece. “Rosey” who signed all her cards with her signature smiley face, was funny, smart, open-minded and open-hearted and an incredibly loving soul. She was an avid reader and loved to watch Jeopardy and Antiques Roadshow. She was a friend to everyone and cherished by all her family and friends, especially for her oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies among all the delicious goodies she enjoyed baking. She was a lifelong member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and for many years volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, was a member of the Philoptochos and loved helping to run the flea market booth at the annual Greek Festival. Rose was also very proud of her Cretan Greek heritage and a member of the Cretan Club of Cleveland. Rose was preceded in death by her husband Pete; brother Mike Gonakis (Goldie); and sisters Chrystal Christ and Sophie Paterakis (John); brother- and sister-in-law Harry and Antonetta Vourlis and sister- and brother-in law Helene and Christoforos Valsamidis. Rose is survived by her children John and Simina, brother-in-law Chris Christ and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
