Joseph F Mackey
June 3, 1965 - January 22, 2022
Joseph Mackey, age 56, born on June 3, 1965, and passed away on January 22, 2022. Beloved husband of 29 years to Judy Mackey (nee Hinton). Loving father of William Mackey (Kelly), Bethany Davis, and Amy Mackey. Cherished grandfather of Julia, Jonathan, Asher, and Grayson. Dear brother of Duane Mackey (Audry), the late Rodney Mackey, and sister-in-law Cheryl Mackey Wing (Jim Wing). Brother-in-law to Sharon (Dean) Kobal and the late William Hinton Jr. Son in law to Betty and the late William Hinton. Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Donna Rae Mackey. Uncle, great uncle, and friend to many. Joe was from the small town of Oak Harbor in Northwestern Ohio. He attended Penta County Technical (now Penta Career Center). He worked in the masonry field, automotive industry, and finally as a laborer with A.M. Higley for 25 years. He was involved with Scouting in the Cleveland area for over 13 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Council (now Mary Queen of Peace) and the St. Leo the Great parishes. Joe enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, as well as restoring and fixing cars. Joe’s life in Cleveland began when he came here for a party and never left. He built a life here with his wife and three children. More than that he built a circle of friends, relatives, and colleagues who he let become like family to him. Joe was the type of person who knew someone everywhere he went. He would help anyone and didn’t wait to be asked. If he saw a need he was there to help. Joe built a community around him with every action he did. He joined a bowling league before his children and then continued with that passion by helping to coach the high school bowling teams that his children were involved in. He helped build a strong scouting family by being involved with every aspect he could through all his children’s scouting careers. Joe loved classic cars and not only worked on and rebuilt multiple cars through out his life but also helped organize and orchestrate classic car shows. He had a strong impact in the community in which he lived, by being a neighborhood block captain for safety, helping neighbors, and providing community services. Joe loved his work. He built a family of brothers and sisters in the construction field. He enjoyed being able to continually learn and have new experiences with every job he took on. He enjoyed the variety and challenge that came with it and meeting new people along the way. Joe’s impact will be felt by many for a long time to come. The relationships he had became friendships he cherished. His legacy carries on in the character and work ethics instilled in his children, those he mentored, and in the example he set for those who knew him.
